Chef Bio

Chef David Newstead has used his passion for cooking to travel the world and has Royalty, movie stars, elite athletes and supermodels listed among many of his clients

After many years learning his trade in London’s west end, he went on to gain

valuable experience in several top restaurants and hotels in UK and internationally, holding the position as Executive chef in Moscow, London, Saudi Arabia, Maldives & Thailand.

While Head chef for Rosewood in Riyadh Chef David was able to develop the private aviation side of the business with fantastic results and becoming the preferred chef for clients such as the Saudi royal family.


David has an excellent track record with consultancy both in UK and international.

In UK he did several consultancy contracts resulting in four consecutive business’ under his guidance reaching regional finals of restaurants of the year for both food and service.

In 2010 he was approached to open the restaurant for TV celebrity Jimmy Docherty at ‘Jimmy’s farm’ Ipswich, UK, which he successfully launched.


In March 2013 Chef David founded Blue Daffodil events, a high end event company which became a multi award winning business including an award from Theo Pathitis from dragons den in 2017.

David was also approached to be private chef to Supermodel Claudia Schiffer and movie director Matthew Vaughn at their family home in Suffolk, UK.


In January 2017, David did a 3 month consultancy at the opening of Soneva Jani, a truly stunning high end luxury resort in the Maldives and one of the leading resorts in the world.

Due to the successful completion of that he was again engaged in November by Global hotel giants Fairmont in 2018 as the pre opening Executive Chef for the new luxury 5 star resort Sirru Fen Fushi. 


Next up came the Executive chef position at Soneva Kiri in Thailand, a multi award winning luxurious, remote and exclusive property frequented by the rich and famous where he spent 2 years as Executive chef.

 Chef David’s love for Thailand made it an easy decision to stay and use all his experience when an opportunity arose to open his own restaurant in Bangrak area of Koh Samui. 

 Together with Khun Mai, who comes from a 5 star service background and has successfully run her own business for the last 8 years, they designed and rebuilt the restaurant from the bottom up.

In July 2022 Pink Salt Samui opened its doors and is welcoming both locals and tourists to try our delicious menu or even a cocktail in the relaxed and perfectly located Pink Salt Samui.
